How Our Journey Began

In the fall of 2006, Pastor Winsome and a number of ministry leaders came together and discerned God's calling for them to start a new church in Northern California. After much prayer, planning, and meeting with other leaders, exciting plans were made to establish a new church community in the Bay Area.

This new church partnered with numerous individuals and several churches and organizations who provided prayer support and one-time financial contributions to help launch this new church plant.

In January, 2007, our ministry leaders began meeting together for Sunday morning worship services in the homes or our members, and in February, 2007, we moved to our present location at Canyon Middle School in Castro Valley.

In the months that followed, and after much discussion and reflection on our identity and values, we selected the name "The Journey" to represent God's calling for our new church community.

Highlights from our Journey
God has poured out His abundant blessings over our church community throughout the past several years. Here are a few of the highlights on our adventure with God.

	June 26, 2010 (Sat) Wedding Celebration: Many of our church members celebrated with Bob & Helen Fukumoto as their son, Scott, married Anita Woo, in a beautiful wedding ceremony in Palo Alto.

	May 29, 2010 (Sat) Baptism of Kiana Fukumoto Our church rejoiced with Kiana Fukumoto, as her parents, Bob & Helen, helped to mark this wonderful spiritual milestone in her life by baptizing her!

	May 29-30, 2010 (Sat-Sun) First Church Retreat We hosted our first church retreat over the Memorial Day weekend. No speakers, no seminars, just lots of time to eat, play, rest, relax, and enjoy life with God and good friends!

	Dec 6 , 2009 (Sun) Christmas Brunch We gave thanks to God for our third Christmas together as a church community by inviting family and friends to join us for a traditional Sunday brunch.

	Apr 26 , 2009 (Sun) Church Lunch: Dim Sum! Everyone was invited to join us for a yummy dim sum lunch at a local Chinese restaurant for one of our many bi-monthly church lunches.

	Dec 14, 2008 (Sun) Christmas Lunch: Sushi! We hosted our annual year-end Christmas celebration as a church community by inviting everyone to join us for a sushi buffet lunch.

	Aug 8, 2008 (Sat) First Family Picnic We gathered for our first family picnic at Ardenwood Historic Farm, complete with a Victorian Garden, horse-drawn train, and buildings & equipment from the 1850's.

	Apr 1, 2007 (Sun) Church Launch Service We marked the official launch of our new church community as we gathered to worship God and to celebrate our first official Sunday worship service.

	Mar 25, 2007 (Sun) Preview Service #2 We held our second preview service and first all-church lunch, and were blessed with friends who came from as far as LA to celebrate God's goodness to us!

	Feb 25, 2007 (Sun) Preview Service #1 We hosted our first preview service, and God blessed us with numerous family & friends who came out to help us launch our new church.

	Feb 11, 2007 (Sun) Canyon Middle School God provided us with our present facilities at CMS, which enabled us to host several pre-launch Sunday morning worship services with our Core Group.

	Jan 7, 2007 (Sun) First Pre-Launch Sunday Svc We met together and held our first pre-launch Sunday morning worship service with 9 adults and 3 children at Brian & Arli Jue's home in Castro Valley.

	Fall, 2006 Church Leadership Team Pastor Winsome and a number of ministry leaders discerned God's calling to come together as a Leadership Team to start a new church in the Bay Area.
